Fast-Acting Relief
Typical medications for mental health issues can take weeks or months to relieve any of the symptoms a person might be feeling. When mental health is on the line, waiting can be dangerous. The traditional alternatives, like Klonopin or Xanax, can lead to dependence or addiction issues. Once relief is found, it is medicine dependent: you will need to stay on the medication, and often your provider will need to increase your dose, or else your symptoms can quickly return.
Ketamine can provide relief within hours to days. In laboratory studies, positive effects were felt as soon as three hours after treatment, and repair of damaged brain synapses was observed within 12 hours.
Fewer Side Effects
The most commonly prescribed antidepressant medications — SSRIs, MAOIs, and SNRIs— have common side effects of fatigue, weight gain, sexual problems, and insomnia, and can even cause suicidal thoughts. While some of these side effects will go away within a few weeks of taking your medication, side effects like insomnia, weight gain, and low sex drive often remain.
Professionally administered ketamine infusions, such as the ketamine treatments at the Wyoming Wellness Center, are relatively free of lasting side effects for patients with treatment-resistant depression. The most commonly experienced side effects are a sensation of feeling “spacey” or “loopy”, and none of these side effects typically last beyond the day of treatment. Ketamine, in rare instances, can cause suicidal thoughts; however, more often it relieves suicidal thoughts within a few hours.
By working with Wyoming Wellness Center, you can speak directly with a medical professional if you are experiencing any side effects. With traditional antidepressants, this type of attention requires another doctor’s visit, copay, sometimes a prescription, and another set of side effects.

High Success and Remission Rate
Ketamine infusions have a high success rate at treating drug-resistant depression. In fact, in clinical studies, symptoms stayed in remission for over half of the participants. In comparison, traditional medications show remission in less than 20% of users. Ketamine is safe, effective, and the results can be lasting.
Although ketamine has shown very positive results for many psychological conditions, it’s not for everybody. It’s important to talk to our staff at the Wyoming Wellness Center about all aspects of your physical and mental health in considering ketamine therapy. This includes your complete medical and mental history, all medications you are taking, as well as the side effects and contraindications for ketamine use.
