What is Myofascial Release?

Fascia, or the spiderweb-like, tough, connective tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, vein, artery, organ, and nerve in the body, is one giant sheet, an uninterrupted web that connects everything in the entire body. When fascia is bound up it causes pain, lack of mobility and imbalance. It can also be the source of fatigue, postural problems, inflammation, emotional trauma, dehydration, nutritional imbalances, repetitive stress injuries, and more.

Fascia has 6-10 times more sensory nerve perception than muscle or the skeletal system. When we modify fascial restriction, or release fascia, a large percent of the time pain disappears! Much more research is being done on the role of fascia, and we are only at the tip of the iceberg. We are gaining more understanding that having a healthy fascial system is key to maintaining health both physiologically and psychologically.

Myofascial Release is a safe and effective form of soft tissue hands-on manipulation that works with the fascial system to enhance movement and functionality in the body. When fascial restrictions are released, space is created, and we restore movement, flexibility, and balance. Benefits may include: decrease in tension and pain, increased range of motion and mobility, helps the body realign itself, improves posture, relieves stress on joints, increases energy, promotes healing, enhances hydration, circulation, lymph drainage and nerve conduction. It also enhances the overall mind body connection. Myofascial release is the number one recommended trigger point therapy!
